In my backyard I have my own private batting cage and pitching machine, almost everything in it or around it was purchased on line, or built with instructions on line, or shopped for online.
Of special intrest are the baseballs I got from Australia. They stay white! I did not beleive it. But it is true. They start out feeling a little "tackey" fresh out of the bag, not quite sticky but not exactly 'right'. However after a little dirt they feel and act exactly like any other baseball except they stay white. These are NOT plastic, slippery, icky balls. They are execellent baseballs. "real" baseballs on the left, stay white baseballs on the right, although that is obvious. As a point of reference all of these baseballs were 'put in to play' within a few weeks of each other (when I got my batting cage).
You might think that once you got a few dozen, you would never half to buy any more. While that is almost true they do get cut, scuffed and otherwise rendered unplayable, same as other baseballs. I have retired three baseballs this month (April 04) because the balls got cut in the cage (off the pitching machine, polls, fence and trees next to the cage. (Look at the picture and see how my cage is wedged into my backyard).
I got these baseballs from http://towersport.com.au in Australia!
The clen up with a damp rag and actually stay white. I took my bucket of balls and dumped them out. basically setting the stay white baseballs on the right. With a damp rag cleaned them up a bit, again with the stay white baseballs on the right. Side by side comparison. It is obvious which are which. Again put into play 2003 August, pictures are 2004 May.
